This hand made sisal bike basket is so versatile! It’s made to be a bike basket that can be taken off the handle bars and made into a bag, using the leather shoulder straps that tuck into the basket when on the bike. Perfect for bike rides to the market.
Women from Eastern Kenya from the Akamba tribe in Kitui and also from the village called Kasue, hand make these “Kiondo Baskets” which take 1-3 weeks to make, depending on the size and season. The season matters because women participate widely in farm chores which means that weaving is done in the evening or during the dry season.
